About us

Founded in 1972, St Stephen’s Women’s Institute (SSWI) has been a thriving community of women dedicated to growth, friendship, and a dash of fun. Our monthly meetings bring together women from all walks of life, offering a welcome break from the ordinary and a chance to meet and connect with lively, like-minded individuals. From discussions on practical topics like choosing the right bra to deeper issues like the refugee experience in the UK, and from Burlesque nights to wine tastings, our gatherings are as diverse as our members.

Beyond our monthly meetings, SSWI offers a range of activities including a walking group, book club, lunch club, monthly craft sessions, a “natter for an hour” social, and regular cinema and theatre outings. Our day trips, one-off events, and afternoon get-togethers ensure there’s always something new to explore and enjoy.

Our mission extends across the community as we support local and international charities, embodying our unofficial motto: “All with fun and cake.”
